Prochorus | Development through Cycling

The Development through Cycling project uses whole-life coaching together with sports coaching to mentor, motivate and develop its beneficiaries holistically.

The proceeds of this campaign will go towards the Youth Camp, which our high school beneficiaries will attend at the end of September 2024. We rely on our community to support us in raising this next generation of leaders; please consider contributing to this camp. Camp fees are R 800 per beneficiary, and we aim to send 14.

Jonkershoek is famous for spectacular views of mountains, amazing mountain bike tracks and beautiful wine farms. About 500 impoverished people are living in the valley of Jonkershoek. More than a third of these consist of children between eight and eighteen years of age. The main challenges in the community consist of teenage pregnancy, children dropping out of school, unemployment, lack of hope and ambition, alcohol and drug abuse, as well as a lack of activities to stimulate the children after school and during holidays. Dysfunctional parenting and a lack of activities are probably the main causes of why youth get involved in gangsterism and wrong behaviour patterns. After some research into the community’s needs and reflecting on our past experience, we are running the following strategic projects at Prochorus Jonkershoek aimed towards youth education and skills development:

  • Aftercare Centre
  • Cycling Whole Life Coaching project
  • Mentoring group for boys and girls
